David F. McCune Memorial Scholarship

Dave was born in Denver, CO on November 7, 1944 to Irene Sink McCune and David F McCune Jr. The family moved to Pocatello when Dave was 2 years old. He attended Jefferson Elementery, Irving Jr High and Pocatello High School, graduating in 1963. He received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy, which he declined in favor of attending the University of Idaho, from which he graduated in 1968.

Dave was a 1972 graduate of Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago, IL. Upon graduation Dave returned to Pocatello to establish his dental practice.

Dave married Peggy Reed on August 21, 1966 in Buhl, Idaho. They shared a wonderful 32 years of marriage and family life together. Dave was dedicated famly man who loved his wife and three children, Marcus, Greg, and Courtney very intensely, as well as his extended family members. Dave took special pride in his father’s accomplishments and his relationship with his brother Doug, both of whom he felt inspired him to become the person he was.

Dr. McCune enjoyed a thriving dental practice for 26 years. In addition he enjoyed teaching and working with his associates at the Dental Hygiene Department at Idaho State University for many years.

Dave was president of the Greater Pocatello Chamber of Commerce in 1985. He had been chairman and also served as a board member of Delta Dental of Idaho for several years. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, chairman of the I Luv ISU Scholarship drive, Idaho State University Bengal Foundation, president of the Pocatello Dental Association, and an active volunteer for Pocatello School District No. 25 in various capacities.

Dave was passionate about fly fishing, traveling, music, basketball and loyal friendships. He also enjoyed golfing with friends. Dave and Peggy’s latest joys in life were the addition of granddaughters Jori and Payton to the family.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy; son, Marcus, and wife, Lee, of Ketchum; son, Greg; and daughter Courtney; father, David F McCune Jr; and loving stepmother, Alice; brother Doug, and wife Gai, and thier children Polley and Caitlyn, all of Pocatello; sister Cheri, and husband Bob Mange of Folsom, CA; mother-in-law Margaret Reed of Buhl; sisters and brothers-in-law, Norma Reed of Star, Barbara and Bruce Bogart of El Dorado, CA, Ruth and Delbert McFarland of Meridian, Judy Reed of Meridian, and Richard Jeffs of Boise. Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Irene.

Interment at Mountain View Cemetery in Pocatello.
