Eleanor Loscalzo Scholarship for Nursing Students

Eleanor Henry Stewart Loscalzo was born on November 24, 1893, in Uddingston, a small community near Glasgow, Scotland. She was the daughter of John and Eliza McCewan Stewart, with four brothers and three sisters. She came to the United States in 1920, and became a U.S. citizen in 1941.

She married Paul D. Loscalzo on November 11, 1938, in Los Angeles, California. Paul became a pharmacy student at Idaho State University. He died young on May 23, 1949, one week before graduating from ISU.

Eleanor served as a secretary for several ISU administrators, including Dr. Ernest J. Baldwin, professor of chemistry, dean of the Southern Branch campus, and dean of the College of Liberal Arts, now called Arts and Sciences. She retired in 1964, and lived in her home, located on the ISU campus, until her death.

A member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pocatello, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and needlepoint. Prior to her death, she donated a valuable collection of plates, including a lighted display case, to the University. She died on June 6, 1990, in Pocatello, at the age of ninety-six.
