L. Lamont Jones passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, March 10, 2013.
He was born December 8, 1929 in Malad, Idaho. His parents were Leland D. Jones and Melba Thomas. At the time of his death he was a practicing attorney with Jack Robison and Tom Holmes at Jones Chartered.
Lamont graduated from Idaho State University in 1953 with a B.S. in accounting. Pocatello is where he met the love of his life, Ilene. They have made their life in Pocatello together for 62 years.
Lamont attended officer’s training school in Bayonne, New Jersey, after which he
was a supply officer at the Alameda California Naval Base. In June 1958, he graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Idaho.
Lamont had a long career in law, receiving the distinguished Lawyer Award from the Idaho State Bar. In 1974, Lamont was promoted to Captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Lamont was past chairman of the Idaho Housing Association, Board of Commissions. He was inducted into the sports Hall of Fame at I.S.U. in 1980 for his football career.
Lamont is survived by his wife, Ilene, daughter, Lisa Jones (Arizona), son, Lance (Shelley) Jones, (S.L.C.
Utah), his grandchildren: Nicole (Dennis) D’Andrea (Arizona), Justin (Dorie) Armstrong, (Oregon), Courtney and Cooper Jones, (S.L.C. Utah) and great-grandchildren, Jarett and Maddison Armstrong, (Oregon).
Per Lamont’s wishes, there will be no funeral and he was cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice . A memorial has been established in the name of: Lamont Jones Scholarship Endowment, at the I.S.U. Foundation, Campus Box 8050, Pocatello, Idaho, 83209
