Melonie Ramsey

Melonie Soper Ramsey [nee Melonie Lee Heaton] graduated from the Idaho State University School of Nursing in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Mrs. Ramsey worked as a registered nurse in various roles for her entire career, specializing in neurological rehabilitation and geriatrics. As a clinical director, Ms. Ramsey managed an inpatient rehabilitation and chronic pain unit in a Wyoming hospital. She also worked as a nurse case manager, legal nurse consultant, professional liability insurance claims representative, healthcare risk manager and was the Administrator for the Washington State Midwifery & Birthing Center Medical Malpractice Joint Underwriting Association.
Mrs. Ramsey is retired from clinical practice and is self-employed creating professional liability and risk management related continuing education courses for small practice and solo healthcare practitioners. Ms. Ramsey resides with her husband, Bret Ramsey, in Sequim, WA. Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey wish to establish the Melonie Heaton Ramsey Nursing Scholarship Endowment Fund to provide financial assistance to nursing students who would not otherwise be able to afford to attend the 4-year Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing program at Idaho State University. From the time she was a young child, Mrs. Ramsey wanted to be a registered nurse. In addition to working various jobs, she relied on scholarships and survivor benefits to realize her goal and wants the same for other aspiring nurses. The recipient requirements are that the nursing student meets the university’s requirements for establishment of financial need, meets the Idaho State University School of Nursing admission and graduation criteria, completes the Idaho State University nursing program with a passing GPA and passes a state licensing registered nurse examination.
