Rampton Barlow Scholarship

Rampton Barlow started a scholarship endowment

for undergraduate and varsity athletic students who attend ISU , Barlow a retired Pocatello teacher, real estate businessman, city commissioner and state legislator. The scholarship will be known as the Rampton Barlow Memorial Scholarship.
I wanted to return some of the help I received though scholarships when I went to school, said Barlow and I want to encourage my children and others to do the same thing.
Barlow attended ISU when it was known as Southern Branch of University of Idaho where he played on the 1928-29 football team. He graduated with a B.A. degree in education, majoring in psychology, from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. .

He became a professional singer for several years, and performed and studied in Chicago and New York during the 1930’s . In 1937-38, he taught vocal music at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. .He had plans to tour Europe in 1938, but the war atmosphere changed his plans.

In 1945, he began his teaching career with the Pocatello School system, where he was music supervisor. Later he taught choir, boys and girls chorus, for many years at Pocatello High School. He retired from teaching in 1973.

Barlow served on the Pocatello City Comission (now council) and in the Idaho legislature during the mid 1960’s. In addition to managing his real estate business, he was active in the civic groups of Kiwanis and Elks Club where he served on the eduucational scholarship committee. He was also a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Pocatello.
His sons , Richard and Jeffery and daughter, Patricia, attended Idaho State University. His son Dr. Richard Barlow, PHD taught at Texaas A&M in collage Station, Taxas before he retired to become the Senior Landman with the Sun Oil Co.
