Flying Scholarship-Mary W Kilbourne Memorial & Galyn & Ester Stone

For Academic Year 2024-2025FLYING SCHOLARSHIP. The Mary W. Kilbourne Memorial & Galyn & Ester Stone Scholarship is awarded to students in any major and class level who are interested in aviation, demonstrating scholastic ability, leadership, and physical fitness for flying. Must be full-time students with a minimum 2.50 GPA for undergraduates and a minimum 3.00 GPA for graduate students. Must be a U.S. citizen. Two letters of recommendation required. All flight training will be conducted with our local Pocatello aviation company.

  6. ESSAY: Include an essay on your interest in flying. Be sure to cover topics such as why you want to fly, who or what influenced your interest in flying, and any other facts or points which you believe are relevant. Applicants should be aware that the selection committee considers this essay to be one of the most important elements used in selecting recipients. The committee looks for persuasive arguments for accepting a candidate, rather than reasons for rejecting him/her.

  10. The program is designed to be accomplished at your initiative. Is your work and class schedule flexible enough to allow you to spend 4 to 6 hours per week in ground or flight training? Please explain in detail.
  11. Awards are generally given for a portion of the cost of a private pilot's license. If awarded, how would you finance the remainder of the cost?

  13. INTERVIEW: Please note that you may be asked to appear before the Stone-Kilbourne Flying Scholarship Committee during the month of April-June for a 15-20 minute interview. If the committee decides that an interview is warranted before they can make their decision, the ISU Scholarship Office will contact you to set up the time and place.

  16. 1st Letter of Reference: Note: Please request TWO letters of reference. Letter MUST be from a person not related to the applicant. Letters should address the applicant’s ability and desire to obtain a private pilot’s license. It is preferred that one of the letters be from someone who is associated in some way with aviation.You are responsible for ensuring references are submitted by the required deadline. You are also responsible for calling your reference providers & alerting them that they will receive an e-mail and the areas they need to address in their letter(s). In the e-mail they will receive from BOSS, they will be instructed on how to attach their letter of reference.
