Joseph J. Lorusso College Scholarship

The essay contest is open to students who are planning on attending an accredited United States college or university during the Fall 2018 semester. Both current college students and those starting college next spring are welcome to apply. $1,000 Scholarship is to be awarded. In order to participate in the contest, applicants must submit a 500-600 word essay.
Essay topic:
Childbirth is the primary reason for hospitalization in the United States. While having a baby should be a time to celebrate, past research shows that approximately 157,000 newborns and/or mothers suffer preventable injuries during the birth process. What do you think physicians and medical professionals can do to decrease/eliminate preventable birth injuries? Is there any device you can invent in order to decrease/eliminate these preventable injuries?
